Pizza Fun

Dinner time is always a challenging time of day (I think for ALL families) so I've tried ways to keep the girls engaged and interested.  Earlier this week we made pizza and the girls had a blast!  It was not the tastiest pizza I've ever had, but it at least kept them busy while dinner was getting ready.

It usually seems to be Sarabeth that gets the good face injuries despite her cautious nature.  Anabelle is the wild child but has escaped the major head bumps and bruises...until now.  We went to the park on Saturday morning.  It was a beautiful day and the girls were having a great time swinging, playing, sliding...you get the picture.  Anabelle can go down the smaller slides by herself with no problem but I always go down the taller ones with her.  We had just climbed back up to the top after going down the big slide together when she decides to try it by herself.  She was part way down before I saw her and my first instinct was to throw myself down the slide and try to catch her.  I hesitated though, realizing Sarabeth was about this age when she started to venture out on her own at the playground, and before long Anabelle would be also.  About halfway down, her shoe caught on the inside of the slide (it was one of those enclosed tube slides) and it flipped her sideways.  At this point, I jumped off the side of the playground equipment only to hear the "thud....SCREAM!" as she landed face-first into the mulch, lip bleeding, mouthful of dirt.  We were about 5 blocks from the house so I walked/ran through the neighborhood with a screaming child.  By the time we got home she was fine, just looked a little worse for the wear.  I think we'll wait a while to go back to the park.

Now for my comic relief...

Sarabeth has been having a hard time napping lately.  We've tried everything but I think she's phasing herself out of a nap altogether.  Anyway, yesterday she came downstairs earlier than usual.  I was sitting on the couch and all I could see of her was her upper body.  I could tell there was something on her arms and in her hair, so I asked her what she was doing.  "I needed lotion, mommy" she tells me.  I stand up only to see this...
It's EVERYWHERE.  And I don't just mean on her body.  We head up to her room where her bathroom is covered in lotion.  The floor, walls, doors, cabinets, everywhere.  I had to keep myself from laughing when I saw her body & clothes covered, but I started to get mad when I saw the extent of the mess.  I cleaned her off the best I could and started on the bathroom, talking to her the whole time about this not being a good choice, asking her why she did it, yada yada yada.  She sat quiet for a few minutes, and then said "I understand."  I said, "Tell me what you understand, Sarabeth."  "I understand that I should no play with the ocean, mommy."

Too cute- how can you stay mad at that?!

Rationale of a 3-year-old...

I just gave the girls an early bath so we can eat dinner and head to church tonight.  After I finish bathing/dressing them, Sarabeth says she has to wash her hands.

me: Why? You just took a bath so your hands are already clean.
Sarabeth: Kuh-buz (because) I was very tired when I got up this morning.
me:  So that means you need to wash your hands?
Sarabeth: Well, Sure!

She was certain her answer was justified, and she now has clean hands and a soaking wet shirt.  Nice.

Happy Birthday Sarabeth!

It's hard to believe that 3 years have gone by already.  It seems like yesterday we brought Sarabeth home from the hospital, and at the same time I can't imagine our lives without her.  She's turned into such a little girl with a love for life and a heart of gold.  We have our great days and our not-so-great days, but I love her through them all and BECAUSE of them all.  We're so blessed to have such an amazing and sweet daughter!
